Overview

I had the opportunity to direct the teaser for "Vencer o Morir", a Chilean series for Prime Video, set during the era of Augusto Pinochet. Filmed in an industrial factory, the teaser introduced an innovative visual approach using real historical projections on pieces of fabric, combined with different areas within the factory to represent key moments of the story. This teaser was produced for Prime Video by Ufilms Latam, with the goal of creating a visually striking and immersive piece that captured the historical weight of the series, introduced its characters, and conveyed the intensity of its conflict.

Challenges & Approach

The main challenge was to convey historical memory without relying on conventional reconstructions. Through our proposed use of archival footage projections, carefully designed staging, and immersive cinematography, we created a teaser that symbolically and visually connects the past and present. The factory became a versatile space where each area represented different moments, using light, texture, and framing to generate depth and tension. The search for conflict in the imagery was key to the visual narrative, contrasting shadows and projections to reflect the struggle and constant danger surrounding the characters.

The Result

The teaser effectively conveys the intensity and historical weight of "Vencer o Morir". The combination of archival imagery, raw textures, and a stripped-down setting creates a powerful and immersive atmosphere. Additionally, it introduced the series' characters in a symbolic and visually compelling way, with a staging approach that emphasizes conflict and the oppression of the era, reinforcing the story’s identity and building anticipation among audiences.
